The evening that Linden goes to return the case file, she and Holder have a discussion about Ashley Kwon's murder and discuss a possible connection with the Seward case.
Linden wonders why Ashley would get out of the car, because she knew the killer wasn't bringing her there for sex. Linden also comments that Ashley walked right in without fighting or running. There were no ligature marks or signs of struggle.
Holder mentions that they know the killer has a knife, but perhaps has a gun too. Linden adds that the killer knows how to control them because he's done it before (which is obviously confirmed at the end of the premier).
We know Pastor Mike works with the teens and is obviously someone the teens trust. A troubled teen most likely wouldn't have any problem getting into a car with the pastor. In the opening scene, the car being driven by the killer passes several teens on the street. It appears that Ashley immediately recognizes the vehicle because she walks right up to it without hesitation and gets in with minimal conversation. Could it be the pastor?
Pastor Mike wouldn't have to say much to get the girls in the car with him. They would probably feel safe. But what about the destination? Would they feel uneasy pulling up to a sketchy abandoned factory? With a stranger, maybe. Even if the killer had a knife or a gun, Ashley may have tried to run. Think of Rosie running like hell through the woods before being knocked out. Going out on a limb here, but maybe Pastor Mike lures the girls into the factory by telling them he has a plan for a new Beacon Home. We know the current Beacon Home only has a few beds; renovating an old factory would provide more beds and opportunities for troubled teens. Maybe he asks these victims for "help" with his project, thus getting them into the factory easily and awarding him full control of his victim.
We are also shown his tattoo. Ephesians 1:7:
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
There have been several serial killers who were either very religious or active in their respective churches (BTK and Gary Ridgway come to mind). Could Pastor Mike have a sexual deviant side for which he feels guilty? Could it be that he is trying to "help" these prostitutes by killing them? Redeeming them through blood? While not realistic, it would be very Hollywood.
It's too soon to tell with any of this. We haven't yet established alibis (Kallie disappears the same night of the bed raffle at Beacon) for any of the characters. We also haven't confirmed the ages of the other victims in the bog, or what, if any, connection there is with the pastor and Seward or his wife. The pastor could be a stand-up guy. But he could also be a suspect too.
